Could my daughter's braces cause her gums to swell?

My daughter had gotten braces over two weeks ago and I've noticed that her gums are a little swollen. Is it possible that her braces could have caused this? If it's not, what could cause her gums to swell up like this?

The swelling is likely due to poor oral hygiene around her appliances.
Hello! Her braces are not causing her gums to swell. Unfortunately it is the way she is bruising her teeth and this is very common when kids first get braces. Kids tend to brush below the brace on the tooth very well but they forget to brush the gums and above the braces. This leads to some plack accumulation on the teeth and causes the gums to swell. It is an easy fix. Just remind her to brush the gums and above the braces. They may bleed a bit when she brushes and this is totally normal it’s just getting the irritation out.
This should resolve within 7-10 days of better brushing!
Good luck!
