“My eyes are blinking a lot. What could be the problem?”
My eyes are uncontrollably blinking. I am 67 years old, and I am really worried that this is because I'm getting older. Could this be the reason why, or is it something else?

The most common cause is dry eye. Use lubricant eye drops to see if that would help. If it doesn't get better, see an eye doctor for further evaluations.
The first step is to rule out dry eye syndrome which is more common with age. Medications can aggravate a dry eye, especially diuretics. Age related disorders including laxity and blepharitis must also be considered. Next, neurological disorders must be ruled out including essential blepharospasm and parkinson’s.

Excessive blinking could be as simple problem as dry. Or it could signify the beginning of a neurological condition. It certainly warrants a visit to your eye doctor to have a more detailed history taken, and a good ocular examination. Best of luck.

Frequent blinking occurs from eye surface disorders like dryness, inflammation, allergy and infections. Aging with hormones decrease affects the eye tissues too. Treatment includes eye lubricant drops, eye protection with glasses in dry windy situations and anti-inflammatory medications and antibiotics, when appropriate.
You may have severe dry eye, benign essential blepharospasm, bilateral hemifacial spasm, or an eyelid dystonia. A tic is another possibility. The diagnosis could be answered by a careful exam by a competent ophthalmologist.
This could be something as simple as a dry eye that can be treated with lubricating eye sold over the counter to a neurological condition like Benign Essential Blepharospam. Best to see an Ophthalmologist who can examine your eyes and blinking to tell you what's going on and what treatment may be best.
