“Is lyme disease common among pet owners?”
I am contemplating buying a pet dog but am nervous about my dog catching and transmitting Lyme as we live in a Lyme-prone area. If I use flea and tick medicine on my future dog, does it protect against Lyme?

Generally, you are protected if you keep ticks off your pet.

Don't be afraid of getting a dog :) Although dogs and cats can get Lyme disease, there is no evidence that they spread the disease directly to their owners
