Psychiatrist Questions Narcissism

Is being obsessed with looks a psychological problem?

My daughter seems to be completely obsessed with her looks. I see her spending a lot of time and money on beauty treatments and products. Could it be a psychological problem?

It is a problem IF your daughter cannot function, that is, neglects school or work responsibilities as consequence of the time that she spends in activities related to your described “obsession.” I hope this answers your question.

It could be a sign of insecurity but it is hard to say without more information such as age, emotional state of her mind, etc. If you are not able to talk to her or she does not open up to you perhaps getting a psychologist to talk to her once a week would be helpful for extra support.
