Nephrologist (Kidney Specialist) Questions Dialysis

When is the right time for dialysis?

My mother is a kidney disease patient and the doctor has said she will need dialysis sooner or later. When do they decide it is the right time for dialysis? How do they know?

It’s a complex answer. Depends on her kidney function and what her labs show. Generally when kidney function drops below grr 20, it’s time to get a fistula placedso you have time for it to heal and become usable for when the function drops below 15 and you become symptomatic. Don’t put off getting a fistula if your doc says u need one.
If the creatinine continues to go up high.
When GFR hits 15 plus symptoms
