Plastic Surgeon Questions Wrinkles

What is the treatment for wrinkles?

I notice I am slowly developing wrinkles all along my eyes and mouth. Is there any way I can prevent them from getting worse?

Thank you for your questions. Facial wrinkles around the mouth and eyes are a very common complaint in my practice. You should know that there are many ways to treat the wrinkles of the face (also called Rhytids). First let's address the wrinkles around the eyes. To improve the appearance of these wrinkles, you can use products that weaken the movement of the muscles. These products include Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. They work wonderfully to decrease the wrinkles around the eyes and forehead and can also help to prevent new wrinkles from appearing. Sometimes the wrinkles around the eyes are cause by excessive skin. In this case you can have blepharoplasty or an eyelid lift. This procedure can be done with twilight anesthesia and achieves wonderful results with a quick recovery period. Another treatment for the wrinkles around the eye can be the use of resurfacing treatments such as lasers and chemical peels. As for the wrinkles around the mouth, they can be treated with lasers and chemical peels as well. However, you can also use fillers to fill the wrinkles and decrease their appearances. These fillers could be products such as Jeuvederm, Restylane or Belotero.
There are a number of things that can help with the appearance and prevention of wrinkles. As far as injectables, Botox is one of the most popular treatments. There is also laser and peels that can give a pleasing result.
As one ages the wrinkles of expression generally seem to get worse for a myriad of reasons. Short of remaining expressionless to prevent the wrinkles the only treatment on the market to soften the wrinkles would be one of the Botulinem toxin products (Botox, or similar preparations). These appear to make the wrinkles less severe.
Neurotoxins like Botox or Xeomin can be used to rest the muscles that form wrinkles or lines on the face. The periocular muscles cause crow's feet and are very amenable to rest from the proper injectable. Perioral lines caused by the orbiculares oris are also treatable with neurotoxins, Botox or Xeomin. Fine, permanent lines can be filled in with a filler or treated with a chemical or LASER peel.

Good luck.
As we age, the quality of our supporting tissues diminishes as the elastic fibers diminish or degrade. This degradation is especially visible in the facial skin, where loss of elasticity translates into wrinkles as the face changes its expressions. While genetics is a big factor, sun exposure is definitely the most common exteriorly aggravating factor, especially in the lighter skin tones that are less protected by melanin. Prevention is important with sunscreen for outdoor situations coupled with early preventative treatments such as the Zo Skin Health system aimed at stimulating skin renewal, along with pigment control. These measures are certainly a habit to develop early for their long-term benefits.
Hi,

I would recommend laser-genesis, which has helped many people in my practice along with fillers and Botox. Please check out my website at www.drkotis.com, and also check out our Youtube channel and Instagram channel at kotis plastic surgery.

I wish you the best of luck,

Thank you for your question. It depends on if the wrinkles are static or dynamic. There are too many variables and options for wrinkle treatment to mention here. You should see a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist in consultatuon. Dr. Yuan
Hi,

You have 2 options to treat and prevent them from getting worse. The first is injecting Botox every 3-6 months that gradually make the wrinkles less visible. It is good for around the eyes only. The second option is treating the wrinkles with Thermi smooth radiofrequency technology that works for around your mouth as well and is long-lasting.
