What can I do for my child's nightmares?

My 6-year-old keeps having nightmares. He'll wake up screaming, and is too afraid to fall asleep because of them. We aren't sure what we can do for this, other than talking to him about them. Is there anything else that we can do?

When did the nightmares start? Did he watch something scary? Sometimes if you can know what caused them and discuss that the nightmares will go away. You need to reassure him that the nightmares are not real. Benadryl 1 tsp before bed can make him sleepy and get into a deeper sleep where he is less likely to have nightmares can be given temporarily
