Psychiatrist Questions Mental fatigue

What causes mental fatigue?

I am a 45 year old man and of late I am feeling mentally tired and fatigued. I am unable to concentrate on anything and my productivity has gone low. What could be the cause for this?

There are the multiple reasons for your fatigue: several medical problems, including low thyroid function, low blood pressure, etc. It could be a result of stress, insomnia, long working hours, depression, etc.
Obviously, I can’t cover everything and I don’t have even basic lab work, but the number one cause would be depression. People can’t enjoy anything, their sleep gets screwed up, and they start feeling hopeless and helpless. If it gets bad enough, they start thinking about suicide.
First step is to see a dr, and let him/her make further decisions. Good luck.
There can be various reasons for that. You can just have exhausted yourself over a period of time, in which case taking a little break and relaxation can help. If not the case, sometimes thyroid abnormalities or other hormonal imbalances can cause fatigue. You should talk to your primary doctor to discuss these and get started with lab testing first.
Any kind of psychosocial or physical stress as well certain medical illnesses cause Mental fatigue
Mental fatigue can be a result of either a physical or mental health condition. I recommend starting with a full medical check up and lab work with your primary care doctor to rule out any medical causes and if it persists request a referral for a psychiatrist to assess if this is related to depression, anxiety or other psychiatric causes.
Have the medical check up first and Rule out all the possibilities for medical problems, if you are free from medical problems, they you may need evaluation for Depression.
