We start with premedication, a sedative and a narcotic. A drug for controlling salivation, atropine or Robinul. Then we give an hypnotic, Propofol, followed by a muscular relaxant, entubation of the trachea, and you are placed in mechanical ventilator and maintenance with gases. Extubation is done at the end of the procedure. At all times, we monitor your vital signs and ekg, oxygen saturation and co2.
Depending on the type of surgery, hospital stay or outpatient surgery, and your health status, your anesthesiologist will decide after reviewing your data. There are over 50 different drugs, so it is a wide range of options.
