Usually very soft, non-chew type of diet the first day, advancing slowly over the first week depending on the surgery. They should go over all of this with you the day of the surgery before your discharge.
Avoid hot foods for 24 to 48 hours, nothing warmer than room temperature; cold things are fine. You should also plan to stay on a soft diet for 5 to 7 days in most cases. Think foods that you can cut with the side of a fork.
