What is a prostate abscess?

I'm a 50 year old man and my doctor said that I have an abscess on my prostate. What does this mean? What's the treatment ?

A prostate abscess is a pocket of pus within the gland itself. Usually this causes significant pain and can lead to significant illness with fever. An ultrasound or MRI/CT usually is needed to diagnose this problem.
The best treatment is usually drain this via a scope procedure through your to unroof the abscess to allow it to drain.
You may have a collection of pus inside of your prostate. The treatment is antibiotics and possible surgical drainage of the abscess.
