Pediatrician Questions Adenoidectomy (Tonsillectomy)

What should I do to help my child recover from surgery?

My son is going to have his adenoids and tonsils taken out next week, and I'm worried about the pain and soreness that he might feel after his surgery. What can I do to help him recover after the surgery?

Tylenol and Motrin when cleared by Surgeon every 4 to 6 hours. Keep him hydrated with Pedialyte.
Make sure he is drinking fluids and eating soft foods. Cold foods may be helpful but hot or Spicy foods may exacerbate pain or irritation. Most of all follow instructions given by your doctor.
Make sure he drinks plenty of fluids. Give Tylenol as needed and make sure he is not too active before his throat heals.
