Hematologist-Oncologist Questions Anemia

Why does anemia cause fatigue?

I have been fighting anemia for years. I take iron supplements and try to eat iron rich foods. Since diagnosed with anemia, I noticed that I'm fatigued. Is this probably a side effect of the anemia? Why does anemia cause fatigue?

Anemia causes fatigue because:
1. Anemia means low levels of hemoglobin
2. Hemoglobin carries Oxygen
3. Oxygen is needed to turn the food we eat into energy
4. Low hemoglobin means low Oxygen, means we cannot make enough energy
5. Hence fatigue
Anemia means a shortage of red blood cells. Since these carry oxygen to your tissues, of COURSE you're tired a lot.
