Germ Cell Tumors

1 What are Germ Cell Tumors?

Germ cell tumors are uncontrolled growths that form reproductive cells.

However, it is known that tumor cells may be cancerous or noncancerous cells.

Most germ cell tumors that are cancerous occur as a cancer of the testicles in males (testicular cancer) and sometimes in women, known as the ovarian cancer.

The germ cell tumors may also occur in other areas of the body such as the abdomen, brain or chest. This however has no explanation to date.

Germ cells that occur in places other than the testicles and ovaries are referred to as extra gonadal germ cells tumors. They are very rare.

Germ cell tumors respond to the treatment and many can be cured, even when they can be diagnosed at late stage.
