Medrol is a steroid drug used in the treatment of hormonal disorders, rheumatic disorders, allergic states, eye diseases, lung diseases, blood diseases, gastrointestinal disorders and other conditions. This drug is available as a tablet containing 2 mg, 8 mg, 4 mg, 16 mg and 32 mg of methylprednisolone.

This medication should be taken by mouth as instructed by your doctor. Do not crush or chew the drug because it may diminish its effects. This medication should be taken with a full glass of water unless your doctor tells you otherwise. You should swallow the drug whole.

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. Continue to use it as prescribed by your doctor or as stated on the package label.

Medrol may interact with medications such as:

  • Mifepristone
  • Quinolone antibiotics such as:
    • Ciprofloxacin
    • or Levofloxacin
  • Other drugs that weaken the immune response such as:
    • Natalizumab
  • Other drugs that can also cause bleeding or bruising including:
    • Antiplatelet drugs such as:
      • Clopidogrel
      • "Blood thinners" such as:
        • Warfarin/Dabigatran
        • NSAIDs such as:
          • Ibuprofen
          • Celecoxib
          • Aspirin
          • Salicylates
  • Azole antifungals such as:
    • Ketoconazole
  • Boceprevir
  • Cyclosporine
  • Estrogens
  • HIV protease inhibitors such as:
    • Ritonavir
  • Macrolide antibiotics such as:
    • Erythromycin
  • Rifamycins such as:
    • Rifampin
  • St. John's wort
  • Drugs used to treat seizures such as:
    • Phenytoin
    • Phenobarbital
    • Carbamazepine
  • Telaprevir

Side Effects:

There are no side effects known aside from a possible allergic reaction in people who have previous or unknown hypersensitivity to the drug.

Watch out for signs of allergic reactions such as:

  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Swelling

Warnings:

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have the following:
