Hello,

You are asking the question of pain following colon cancer surgery.

In general, colon cancer surgery requires an incision to open the abdomen. Then the surgeon must identify the area where the cancer is located and excise a portion of the colon containing the cancer. This is done under general anesthesia.

Post operatively it is important for the abdomen to recover. Pain medicine is needed and used to control discomfort. It would be unlikely for any long term pain be encountered after a couple of days of postoperative discomfort.

Good luck.
I don't think it is more painful than any other abdominal surgery. Your surgeon should be able to answer all of your questions. I recommend you discuss all concerns with your surgeon.
If done laparoscopic technique should become manageable without narcotics in 2-4 days
You should have good pain management.
Any surgery will result in some pain. It depends on many factors: which surgery, complications, your pain tolerance, anxiety, depression. A surgeon is best to ask this question.
