OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions Irregular Periods

How does Regestrone help in regularizing periods?

I am having irregular periods and I am also gaining weight. The doctor has prescribed tablet Regestrone to help me get my periods. Does it really work in regularizing periods?

it helps to get and regulates your periods. Alternative is birth control pills or mire a where you don’t get a cycle and it is healthy
I am sure your doctor checked the following issues:

1) Your age
2) Lab evaluations
3) Ultrasound

and made a reasonable decision to start the medication he prescribed.

Good luck

It is one of the normal female hormones, but it is semi-synthetic and it works like birth control pills, which are also used to control heavy menstrual bleeding.
Artificially YES
Irregular bleeding through the menstrual cycle occurs in large percentage in young females (different in pre- or post-menopausal women) and more frequently in the younger females due to the immaturity of the hypothalamic/pituitary axis. The ovaries and the pituitary gland “are not in sync,“ thus ovulation doesn’t occur regularly and consequently the production of unopposed estrogen produces growth in the internal lining of the uterus (Endometrium), which at a certain thickness because of the lack of oxygen at the surface causes irregular detachment and there you go another period. Regestrone has the other hormone that is not provided “Progesterone” which is given in a regular cycle basis usually 7-10 days of the cycle. Remember, this is not a cure, but the hope is that with time, the pituitary/ovarian axis mature. We must remember that the follow up in menopausal women is different.
Hopefully, I answered your questions to satisfaction.
