String-like clots in urine?

I am 87 and wear a Foley catheter 24/7, which on infrequent occasions has been blocked by clots associated with an episode of blood in urine. I have been taught how to manually irrigate to clear it. Most passed clots have been lumps, but a few have been linear. The latter is usually around 3/8" to 1-1/4" long, but one was about 8" long and loosely coiled. While I mentioned this all to my urologist, he did not comment (I may seek a different MD).

MY QUESTION: Do linear clots (if that's what they really are) indicate that they formed in a vessel, e.g., a ureter, rather than in my bladder? Note: I experience chronic morning pain in my right groin/lower abdomen, especially when attempting to stand up from bed. CAT scans (w/o contrast) and ultrasound have shown nothing. Throughout the day my lower right abdomen feels slightly and vaguely "heavy,* and I am (and have long-been) about 100 lbs overweight.

Linear clots form along the surface of a tubular structure and do not fracture into clumps. Could be Foley. Could be a ureter.
