Generally when they do not fit well
Thete are several causes for denture sores. Some examples are I'll fitting dentures, food debris build up or an overgrowth of natural occurring oral fungus.
Soreness under the denture base is usually from the lack of full support of the soft and hard tissues of the jaws. If it's an older denture, the bone, and gums "remodel", a natural process that happens after a period of time with the denture in place. It can sometimes be relined to create a surface that better fits with the mouth, or if it's really old, it may need to be replaced. There is a process dentists use to check the current fit of your denture, using a white paste that shows where the jaws have receded from the denture. Have your dentist do this procedure to check the fit and go from there.
If they are over 10 yrs. old, the fit is poor and that irritates the
gums. If they are new, then they are sore spots, which is typical, but you
must return for adjustments.
Sore gums usually are due to ill fitting dentures. Your denture needs to get relined or you may need a new denture. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions.
