Laparoscopic is the best approach and recovery time. I woud not use the term most effective.
It certainly depends on the type of hernia and the size, Laparoscopic or Robotic surgery has been shown to have a quicker recovery with less pain than open surgery with similar or decreased recurrence rates.
Studies have shown results between minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) versus open repair is best. Whichever method your surgeon prefers is probably the most effective for you. I typically recommend robotic inguinal hernia repairs for my patients.
