We can't rid your everyday stress, but we can help the body cope with it better. We give tips on foods, exercise, meditation, etc. It's very beneficial.
Although stress can most definitely be caused by external influences (work, deadlines, relationship issues, kids), our ability to handle stress comes from within. Those that practice meditation, yoga, tai chi and the like, seem to have a better time handling stress. If you keep yourself balanced emotionally, the less the stressful situation will affect you. Proper diet and sleep can play a big part also. I find that taking deep breaths in through the nose, out through the mouth several times reduce my stress and help me to see things more objectively.
That being said, yes, acupuncture can help balance the system but there are a lot of things that you can do on your own to combat stress. Join a stress reduction support group. Practice tai chi/yoga/meditation. Really think about what makes you feel relaxed and do it often. Visit a pet shelter (if you like animals) and experience the relaxation and happiness that comes from holding a purring kitty!! Playing with kittens always works for me!!!
A lot of the stress in your life is truly in your hands to do something about! Thanks for writing and good luck!!!
Hi there,

Please first consult with your regular primary physician for your condition and get a recommendation and referral. TCM does have chi kung exercises, acupuncture techniques, and herbal supplement to help with mental stress. In TCM, mental stress could be a variety of things. Please see your acupuncturist for correct diagnoses.
Acupuncture is very effective in relieving stress. It is rewarding to watch the relaxation response that occurs after inserting the needles. Chinese Medicine explains that this results from correcting underlying imbalances in meridians and organs. Modern research has shown that acupuncture releases endorphins and balances the stress hormone response.
Yes, it will reduce stress by balancing your neurotransmitters/chemicals of the brain and relaxing your physical body. We will also advise you how to reduce your stress level through the treatment course.
Yes, there are symptoms that you may have from stress. Some people experience insomnia, digestive issues, pain, or other symptoms. Acupuncture helps in reducing or eliminating those symptoms which creates a better quality of life and helps them to relax.
Acupuncture is very good for stress related issues. It helps the "fight or flight" aspect of our nervous system to rebalance and give people a better sense of well being and centeredness. It can help your muscles relax and allow your blood to flow more easily and can help you rest better.

The work related stresses will continue, but the treatments can help you separate yourself from the work personally, thus allowing you to cope with the situations more readily.

The practitioner may also have some herbal formulas to take to keep the treatments moving or might put some "stay in" needles in the ears (very small and flat held in with a bandaid type adhesive). These will keep you calmer longer.

Be sure to find a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) in your area and if the first one doesn't help, look for a few before you give up. If there is a Five-Element practitioner near by, seek them for sure.

Good luck.
Good afternoon,

Acupuncture can work for mental stress, but you need to find the right acupuncturist so they can differentiate and find out the proper diagnosis and treat accordingly.

Thank you,

David
Acupuncture is highly effective to reduce stress. It helps by restoring the body and mind to balance, and bringing one into a parasympathetic state (rest & digest). It’s kind of like that feeling after getting a massage, taking a hot bath and a good night sleep... No more stress!
I have to tell you that emotional issues are my favorite thing to treat because acupuncture works so well. And in the case of stress, the acupuncture will not only help you feel calmer, but it will also be addressing the physical responses your body is producing as a result of the mental stress. So yes, don't walk, run to your nearest practitioner and start feeling better today!
Yes. Acupuncture is very good for stress. Some patients may need to combine with herbs for better effects.
Acupuncture is a wonderful way to release and reduce stress.

The short answer to your question is yes. Acupuncture is like physical therapy for the nervous system. It trains the nervous system and brain to behave in ways that correspond to desired effects. Stress can be very damaging to the body and I would advise anyone with a stressful job to get acupuncture treatment regularly.
Yes, acupuncture is a good tool for reducing the symptoms of stress. Obviously, we cannot make your stress disappear, but we help your body's reaction to stress by freeing blocked energy, clearing heat and inflammation, supporting the metabolic processes that support our daily functions, and calm the mind and nervous systems.

First, we have to find out how your body reacts to stress, what it feels like, and then we use our Chinese Medicine skills to figure out how to move things around in your body to make you feel more comfortable. Stress can be like a messy closet, just needs organizing. Or stress can feel like clothes that are too tight, and we have to give your body some room to
breathe. The circumstances dictate the style of treatment.

Bowel problems, sleep problems, pain and tension, headaches, mental restlessness and mood problems are all stress related conditions where acupuncture works very well. I hope that answers your question.

Thank you for inquiring,

Erin

YES! Acupuncture can help mentally and physically, simultaneously. The mind and body work as a zipper effect: one affects the other and both must be treated to fix the problem. While clearing your mind and alleviating the stress, the muscles that are holding onto the stress will also be relieved of the trauma, allowing for free flow of blood and qi (energy), which in turn keeps your stress level down.
Acupuncture can work very well in stress management, it's a big part of my practice.

Acupuncture studies have pretty consistently shown that it activates the parasympathetic side of the autonomic nervous system. This is the so-called "rest and digest" part of the equation. This activation goes a long way to helping people relax and better manage the more stressful parts of their lives.
