Pediatrician Questions Blurry vision

Can coughing cause blurred vision?

My son is 12 years old. He began complaining of blurred vision immediately after he had a cough. Can coughing cause blurred vision? Is this a sign of a much more serious illness?

Less likely, unless it is a severe cough, consult your primary care doctor.
Yes — violent coughing can very RARELY cause a retinal tear or detachment — and very myopic people may be predisposed because of stretching and thinning of the retinal tissue. I strongly suggest taking him to see an ophthalmologist ASAP!
If the coughing is bad enough, hemorrhage can occur in the eye. He should see an ophthalmologist.
Coughing may be associated with teary eyes and hence blurry vision. See your Dr for an examination
Forceful coughing can cause temporary blurred vision or near syncope. Try to increase fluids and determine the cause of the cough. If it is more than just a cold, he would need to be checked.
