Physiatrist (Physical Medicine) Questions Lower back pain

What could be the cause of my constant pain while sleeping?

I am a 37 year old woman and I am suffering from extreme pain in my lower back while sleeping. Due to this pain I am unable to sleep peacefully and wake up tired. What could be the reason for this back pain which comes only while I sleep?

I recommend you consult your health care provider to find out the cause of your low back pain. One possibility is an improper sleeping position or an unsupportive mattress. It may also be related to musculoskeletal issues such as a strained muscle or a herniated disc.

Most likely the mattress plays a role
I have been traveling, but I will go ahead and answer your question anyway. Apologies for the delay.
If your pain is only coming on whilst sleeping, it can be the way you sleep, lying for a long time in one position, and/or the bed. How old is your mattress? 10 years is the ideal time to change it if it's one used all the time. The fact that you seem fine during the day suggests it's your mattress. You can try a new mattress for, I think, 30/60 days and return it if it is not good for you. I would also try doing some stretching prior to bed, such as yoga stretches. It might be your muscles are very tight, depending on what you do during the day.
Don't start taking medications. It's not the right direction to go find the cause.

Hope this helps.
If you have no history of injury to your back then it would be important to see your doctor to get imaging studies such as Xray or MRI to diagnose any structural abnormalities.
Mattress needs to be examined, but so does your spine. See your doc to make certain there is no spinal abnormalities or pelvic imbalance first, then sample different mattresses, sleep buddy pillow, and so forth.
There are many possible causes to this from a tear in a lumbar disc to irritation of small joints in your back. You would need to be examined by a physician and most likely have an MRI.
To whom it may concern:
You need to see a physician to examine your back pain. It can be many reasons, causes back pain at night, from soft mattress, back strain, to even cancer. You don't  want self diagnosis and treatment. You need to seek a medical professional to check out what is the reason causing your back pain.
