How long do you stay in the hospital after hernia surgery?

I am a 58 year old male. I have a hernia and want to have surgery to fix it. How long do you stay in the hospital after hernia surgery?

I do not admit patients who have laparoscopically repaired inguinal hernias. They all go home.
About 2-7 days.
I can't tell you for sure. I can tell you that some people only stay 24 hours and some stay up to 3-4 days. It's all about you and how well you do after surgery. I wish you well. oledochouse
It can be done as outpatient or stay in the hospital overnight
It can be done is the same day surgery so the time for preop, anesthesia, surgery, recovery and discharge can be done within 4 to 6 hours. Barring any complications, This is pretty much a straightforward surgery.
Usually for hernia surgery you go on the same day.
Generally, hernia surgeries are done as outpatient and only stay for few hours until patient is fully recovered and released same day. However, if the hernia surgery is extensive and complicated especially if a major(open)incision repair is performed such as huge abdominal hernia or if the patient has complicated medical problem like a heart condition or dialysis (kidney) problems , patient on blood thinners like Coumadin or the newer blood thinners, patient may have to stay at least overnite at the hospital centeruntil patient is medically stable and cleared by specialists and the surgeon delivering care to the patient.
Inguinal and umbilical hernia repairs are typically done as outpatient procedures. Larger ventral or incisional hernia repairs may require a 1 night stay in the hospital. Complex abdominal wall reconstructions and hernia repairs may require several days in the hospital.

If your procedure is being done laparoscopically, your hospital stay will likely be shorter as well.
