How long should you wait to eat after a filling?

I am a 22 year old male. I will have a filling next week. How long should you wait to eat after a filling?

After numbness wears off
The only other limiting factor is to wait long enough to allow the local anesthetic to wear off so you don't bite your cheeks, lips or tongue.
Only concern is being numb not the filling.
You should wait until the numbness wears off for the the composite (white) fillings and at least 24 hours for the amalgam (silver) fillings before eating on them.
Wait until the numbness has gone.
It's dependent upon the type of filling material used. Always safe to wait until the numb feeling is gone. This way you will not bite your lips, tongue, or cheeks. Ask your dentist to be sure.
If it is a gold or a composite filling, you can eat as soon as the numbness goes away. If it is a silver/mercury filling, get a new dentist.

Can eat right away if it is light cured resin, but recommend waiting until the anesthesia wears off so you don’t bite yourself.

Until the numbness wears off.
