Pediatrics | Pediatric Cardiology Questions Electrocardiogram (Ecg Or Ekg)

Is ECG safe for children?

My son is 9 years old, and his doctor said that he must have ECG test after experiencing a chronic arrhythmia. Is this test safe for a 9-year-old?

An ECG can be safely performed in patients of all ages
An EKG is completely safe for children. The only risk is that the test is interpreted by someone not experienced in reading EKGs in children. As long as it is being interpreted by an expert in pediatric EKGs, then the test carries no risk.

An ECG is safe for anyone regardless of age.
Yes, it is a very simple test that is performed by placing sticky electrodes on the skin and recording the heart beat (electrical activity). It is a non-invasive procedure and posts no harm whatsoever. Good luck.
