If the tooth has a cavity, it will continue breaking the tooth and will require a root canal.
Cavities are essentially infections in the actual teeth. If left untreated, the infection will get to the nerve and cause unbearable pain.
This is a great question. A cavity is an infection of a tooth. Unlike a sore throat, an infection in a tooth can never heal. It will only become worse. Several things can then become a side effect:

1. The infection can spread to other teeth, infecting them.
2. The infection can spread to your children and/or other family members.
3. The infection will get into the blood stream as it enlarges into the pulp.
4. Infections in the blood stream can result in bad things to your heart, joints, etc.
5. Serious infections can occur in the tissues around the end of the root.
6. In a worst case situation, death can be the result.
7. Eventually, you will have no teeth.
8. Lower quality of health results from the infections and lack of teeth.
9. It has been stated that people with healthy teeth live 10 years longer.

For the best health, and for no new cavities, study the book: GROWING A HEALTHY CHILD, SECRETS FROM A WISE OLD DOC

I wish for you excellent health and no new cavities. You can, can do it. Follow the easy directions in the book for no new cavities. Go for it. If not for you, do it so you do not spread cavities to your family members.
Thank you for your interest.
Feeding bacteria into your blood stream to other parts of the body. Not good
If not filled in a timely manner, the cavity can get bigger, pain, tooth can break, or it may need RCT.
