Izelle Cloete is an acupuncturist practicing in San Diego, CA. Dr. Cloete evaluates and treats patients based on the concepts of oriental medicine. Acupuncturists complete their evaluations by getting a patient history and looking at and touching the body. Then, they place very fine acupuncture needles into specific points on the body. Stimulating these points and nerves is how Dr. Cloete treats the patients condition. Many of the bodys systems respond to acupuncture, and it can treat physical pain as well as emotional stress.

As an L.Ac., I treat many patients with hypertension. I have observed that it takes about 1 year before the hypertension is controlled with only acupuncture, sometimes 2 years, depending on the length of time that you have been taking anti-hypertensives and depending if you are taking more than one anti-hypertensive. The effects of acupuncture can be immediate after the treatment, but the hypertension will soon return a few hours after the acupuncture treatment, therefore, most patients that are sensitive to acupuncture may be advised to take their anti-hypertensive medications later in the day if they are coming for an acupuncture treatment in the morning. I am also an RN (BSN) and will check blood pressure before and after the treatment, if you are coming for treatment of HTN. READ MORE
It is a long process. But acupuncture can be extremely effective, if you are in it for the long run. It takes two to tango. When I treat patients for weight loss, they have to follow through on all the food recommendations and lifestyle changes as prescribed according to the traditional Chinese theory. READ MORE

As an Acupuncturist, I have had great success stories for people suffering from migraines. Worst case scenario, the migraines will reduce in frequency and intensity. Best case scenario, Acupuncture, if applied correctly according to Traditional Chinese Diagnostic skills, can treat Migraines successfully. I usually focus on the Liver energy channel and the Stomach energy channel and may also treat the spine if an MRI reveals structural problems. READ MORE
The greater the imbalance in your body, the more sleepy you feel after a acupuncture session. Try not to sleep after the acupuncture session, go for a walk, drink healing tea, go about your daily activity and go to bed early. The next day you will feel refreshed. As you become more balanced, according to the five principles, you will feel less and less tired after a treatment. Also remember that the energy channels that connects to the womb, also connect to other internal organs. READ MORE
It will be difficult to resolve your sleeping disorder if the cause of your insomnia is your erratic working hours. Try to go per diem with the IT job and find another per diem job that has better hours, so at least a few days of the week you are able to sleep soundly at night. Night time is Yin. Daytime is Yang. During the Yin time, your body is able to recover and heal. Many professions require their workers to work at night, and some people have adapted to erratic working schedules. However if your body cannot tolerate it, it may be time to make a change. After your made changes and your still suffer from insomnia, Acupuncture is the modality for you. There are many patterns (causes) for insomnia and we can do an assessment and verify which pattern is causing the insomnia. Examples are: Stomach Heat, Liver Damp Heat, Heart Fire, etc., to name just a few. READ MORE

Yes, Acupuncture is extremely helpful in alleviating symptoms of indigestion. Sometimes the indigestion is a symptom of another underlying problem. Via tongue diagnosis and pulse diagnosis, I can evaluate what other organs are causing the indigestion and instead of just treating the symptom, I can also treat the cause. Chinese Herbs can be prescribed in combination with Acupuncture. READ MORE
According to Chinese Medicine it is extremely important to control the asthma as soon as possible because this Lung Deficiency influence the functions of all the other organs. The Lung governs the Qi of the entire body. Yes, Acupuncture and food therapy should be started immediately. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a preventative medicine, for your child, we as TCM doctors want to prevent other problems that could develop later in life, that stems from the asthma. We also focus on prevention of asthma when a mother is pregnant. If you are planning to get pregnant again, I would like to help you through the seasons and through the trimesters. When a mother does not get sick during her pregnancy, that also enhances the chances that her child will not be sick in the future. When a mother eats foods that focuses on what the baby needs during his development of his organs while in your womb, this will also prevent disease. READ MORE
Just like a Medical doctor cannot guarantee success when doing an IVF, so also can a Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor, like myself, not guarantee success with Acupuncture. In comparison, Medical MD's will prescribe certain Hormones, and TCM Doctors will prescribe herbs during certain phases of your menstrual cycle. TCM Doctors focus as much on the cause of the infertility as they focus on the treatment of the infertility. I use some of the Tools from the medical field and require that a woman brings a BBT chart for the last 3 months of her cycle, before starting treatment. I also require the both the man and the woman undergo treatment simultaneously. Western Medicine doctors obtain lab results and TCM practitioners look at the tongue and the pulse to assess the patient's current status. Just like with Medical doctors the menstrual cycle is key in diagnostics. The diagnostic vary between east and west, as MD's work with hormones, we work with the elements of Yin, Yang, Qi and Blood. We as TCM practitioners also work with the elements of Air/wood, Fire Water, Earth and Ether/Metal. These elements are represented in the organs of the body, and forms the groundwork for TCM diagnostics and treatment with Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Moxibustion READ MORE
Acupuncture is both. For example: if you have insomnia, and your TCM doctor diagnose you correctly, the insomnia can be treated without using other treatment. There are more than 7 different Pattern Diagnostics in TCM, that could be the cause of insomnia. Via Acupuncture and maybe also herbal formulas, insomnia can be successfully treated. Let's take another example, like Sciatica. I prefer to not treat in conjunction with other therapies, If you combine multiple therapies it is nearly impossible to distinguish which therapy was effective. However, if I do not see any result within approximately 5 treatments, I will refer this patient back to their primary care physician. If this same patient is referred to me by a Chiropractor, I will continue to work in conjunction with the Chiropractor. READ MORE
