HEALTHJOURNEYS

Fibromyalgia has a lot of misconceptions attached to it. What do you wish people understood about fibromyalgia?

I wish people would understand that fibromyalgia is real, I would love to go back in years when I was pain free. Please understand that we are not being lazy, I am not being rude when I cannot understand what you are saying when I have brain fog and cannot get my words out, forgetting what i was going to say. It would be nice to get a good night's sleep free from pain, restless legs etc. Just because this is an invisible illness, I am not invisible. I am still me. Please don't judge me.

Has any one told you that "you don't look sick?"

Oh yes, I have been told I don't look sick many times, you look great. We fibromyalgia warriors are very good at hiding this horrible illness, to avoid being judged.

Tell us, who is your biggest support system while coping with fibromyalgia?

My biggest support system while I cope with fibromyalgia, is a monthly support meeting for us warriors. Guest speakers attend the group meeting. Also there are many support groups online, to be able to chat to others makes me understand more about this illness.
