Have a Butt Like a Kardashian with a Brazillian Butt Lift

What is it?

The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a surgical procedure done to provide a more prominent and perky buttocks for individuals who are unhappy about having flat buttocks. This procedure uses your own fat so it is a natural way of uplifting your buttocks. This procedure enables you to enhance your appearance.

Who are candidates?

Both males and females of all ages are capable to undergo a BBL technique. Candidates who have the following criteria can do a BBL:

  • Asymmetrical buttocks
  • Flat or sagging buttocks
  • Weight loss which has shaped the buttock’s shape.

 Preparing for the procedure

Your surgeon will ask you to do certain blood tests prior to the surgery. A history and physical examination will also be done to assess your physical status. In addition, you will have to stop smoking at least 4 weeks prior to the surgery and stop aspirin at least one week before. The night before the surgery, you will be advised to avoid any meals and drinks.

How is it performed?

The surgery can be done under general anesthesia or with local IV sedation. The type of anesthesia used will be discussed with you by your surgeon.

The technique used for BBL will vary from surgeon to surgeon and the type of technique used will affect the surgical result as well as the time duration which the effect will last. The technique of BBL involves fat extraction by the means of liposuction and reinjection of the fat into the buttocks. Once the fat is extracted by liposuction, it is processed by decanting and centrifugation. The best donor fat cells are then chosen and will be reinjected to your buttocks. Usually not more than 25% will be capable to be reinjected.

The fat is transferred to your buttocks by giving hundreds of injections. The injections will be given at varying areas at varying depths to the buttocks. This is to improve the rate of absorption of the fat cells thus giving rise to a smooth and perfect appearance to your buttocks.

Another technique that can be used is to insert implants, but for a more natural look and feel, using your own fat is preferred.

Recovery period

The recovery period following the Brazilian Butt Lift is the most important to keep the grafted fat cells to survive and give a long lasting effect. It is strongly advised to avoid sitting on your buttocks for at least for 3 weeks. This is to save all the grafted fat cells and produce a long lasting effect. Bed rest and drinking lots of fluids is also important especially in the first week after the surgery.

The other important protocols include:

  • Avoid driving in the first 3 weeks.
  • Stay home for at least 2 weeks following surgery.
  • Follow up with the clinic appointment given to you by your surgeon.
  • A special type of compression garment should be worn for about 2 weeks to control the swelling.

You will be able to carry on with your normal activities 4 weeks after the surgery.

What are the possible risks and complications?

The risks and complications associated with a Brazilian Butt Lift done using your own fat is less compared to one done using implants. The possible complications that can arise following a BBL include:

  • Swelling
  • Numbness and pain
  • Fat embolism
  • Stretch marks
  • Hematoma formation
  • Loss of fat graft when the advised protocols are not followed accurately.

How long will this last?

The results of a Brazilian Butt lift greatly depend on the surgeon’s experience. If the technique is carried out properly, then the effects of a BBL will be long lasting.
