Endodontist Questions Root Canal

Can having a root canal cause any long-term complications?

I need to have a root canal on my bottom right canine tooth. Can having a root canal cause any negative, long-term complications?

Sometimes...but not like a toothache where you pull the tooth.
If a root canal is done properly and the patient takes good care of the tooth, including diligent oral hygiene and common sense such as not biting down on extremely hard foods, there is no reason your tooth cannot function in your mouth for many years, and possibly the rest of your life.
Dear patient,

A root canal, if done properly by an endodontist, should not give you any long-term complications.
Most of the time root canal treatment can last for a lifetime without complications as long as the tooth is restored with a crown.
Root canal procedure has some risks that may lead to chronic inflammation if any complications occur. Only 2% to 5% of cases fail; then, extraction is recommended. You always have an option to choose extraction over root canal treatment and tooth replacement.
