I am a 28 year old male. I want to know if antidepressants work for generalized anxiety?

Yes. There are several different kinds of anti-depressants. Most Anti-depressants (SSRI) work on serotonin. Few Antidepressants works on other brain receptors. One size does not fit all; trial of different classes of medications may be required in some cases.

Some do if they are not activating. I would be best to consult with a psychiatrist to choose the most appropriate one.
I am not an MD, but what I hear from my psychiatrist colleagues is that SSRIs are helpful for generalized anxiety. Zoloft in particular.
