“Does acupuncture help with fertility?”
I am a 26 year old female who is having trouble conceiving with my husband. Does acupuncture help with fertility?

Yes, it usually does. Most of my fertility patients have gotten pregnant. And I believe they had healthier babies, too, as a result of getting healthier before conception.
Acupuncture can be helpful to support both female and male fertility by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs, balancing hormones, reducing inflammation, and improving sleep and stress. Patients with unexplained infertility, high stress, or those seeking to improve their outcomes with ART (such as IVF) can also benefit from adding acupuncture to their care plan.
Ideally, good to begin seeing the patient
3 - 4 months prior to conception/transfer so that we can help with egg quality, work on any cycle or lining irregularities, address any nutritional concerns, and help reduce stress.
If you are going through IVF, FET or DET, acupuncture helps to prepare your body for your transfer.

Acupuncture targets stress, which is very heightened when trying to conceive. We can also use points to target reproductive organs, increase blood flow to the uterus, and promote smooth flow of fluids through the body. By decreasing stress and promoting blood flow, it makes the environment more open to conception.
Thank you for your question,
That certainly can be frustrating having difficulties conceiving. The first most important thing is have a physician, a medical doctor who specializes in fertility, to be evaluated for the reasons. That includes looking at both you and your husband.
I wish you the best of luck,
Dr. B

Yes! As with any medicine, you and your husband must be evaluated for EdD quality and spent count etc. Acupuncture is wonderfully gaelpful in resolving fertility issues.

Yes, acupuncture can help with fertility. It does so by helping to regulate your hormones and period, as well as to create a more receptive and hospitable environment for a fertilized egg. Acupuncture stimulates the production and release of hormones like estrogen and progesterone. It also releases endorphins and serotonin, which help fertility if stress is to blame! In addition, acupuncture helps to send blood flow to the uterus, helping it to relax and open. If conception has already occured, acupuncture can help keep a pregnancy by strenghtening the reproductive organs in their "holding" function and helping to send blood, nutrients and oxygen to the fertilized egg. Acupuncture can also help with the health of sperm in terms of the man and infertility.
Acupuncture can help with infertility. There is a wide range of causes why a patient might not be able to get pregnant. If it is due to an anatomical issue, acupuncture won't work. If it is due to a physiological unbalance: hormones then acupuncture will be beneficial. Being young, 26 years old, your chances of getting pregnant are high.

Yes, acupuncture is commonly used for fertility issues. It is a large part of my practice. Acupuncturists often work together with an OBGYN in the treatment. Acupuncture is very helpful for many female issues.

Yes, traditional Asian medicine, which acupuncture is one type of therapy, can help with fertility. As each situation is very individual and in order to assess and diagnose issues in "preparing the palace" it is best to start with a consultation from a licensed acupuncturist or Diplomate of Oriental Medicine.
Yes!!! The urogenital area is supported by a few channels. When the organs and channels are open and full of energy it is simple to conceive. When the organs are tired and the channels are empty the process of getting pregnant is difficult or impossible. Acupuncture helps in the process of getting the organs and channels ready for conception. Many fertility centers are using acupuncture on the day of transplantation which increased the chances of conceiving.

There has been some success with infertility and acupuncture. As with any type of medicine, there is no guarantee. If structural problems such as a tilted uterus, uterine fibroids and so on, with either you or your husband, have been ruled out, then the main objective is to regulate the period. Oftentimes, I see issues of endometriosis, heavy periods or missing periods and these can be problematic but not always. Working with your acupuncturist on stress reduction, dietary changes, maintaining a healthy diet that supports pregnancy, following a regimen of sleep, deep breathing and internal exercises, for instance, all can greatly increase your chances of conceiving. Removing any negative influences in your life is key. If there are any unresolved issues emotionally, you may want to explore therapy. No one thing alone will help with infertility, but these aforementioned things, along with acupuncture definitely improve your chances. Good luck!!!
Yes, absolutely. Asian medicine is probably the best medicine to treat people naturally for infertility to help conception.
Acupuncture can be an excellent addition to treatments you are using to help conceive. Fertility clinics and acupuncture may not have a 100% guarantee, but it has had some success in many cases. I can help you work with your doctor. I do have some experience with infertility couples and am sensitive to your needs.

Matt

Yes, but acupuncture treatments for fertility can go much deeper than the science behind conception. We understand having a child to be a spiritual experience as much as it is a biological one, so keep an open mind and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Acupuncture does help with infertility in most cases. You would want yourself and your husband to both get treatments since it is not always only the woman's issue. You also would want to find an acupuncturist who specializes or has a lot of good experience with infertility. There are acupuncture clinics that primarily focus on fetility only, I would recommend using one of those. Be sure to find a location that you feel comfortable in.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Yes. Acupuncture is popular with treating fertility. I will recommend looking for a practitioner who specializes in fertility that is close to your residential area.
Yes, acupuncture has a pretty good track record when it comes to fertility - both natural and IVF. The thing is, it can take some time for the acupuncture treatments to move the system - most studies show you want to start acupuncture 90 days before attempting to get pregnant. This is a study average, but it's a good rule of thumb.
If you've been trying and experiencing difficulties, I'd strongly suggest a medical work-up for both you and your partner. There may be structural issues or sperm quality issues in play that could best be addressed in a different way.
Fertility is one of those areas where it's fairly critical to see a licensed acupuncturist (rather than a PT or chiropractor who might be offering "acupuncture" services). You really need someone who understands the Chinese diagnostic model and specializes in treating fertility issues. To find local providers, go to NCCAOM.org and choose their "Find a Practitioner" link.
