if the surgery is for inguinal hernias and is done laparoscopically, one can drive in two days and return to light work in 3 days
You are able and encouraged to walk the day of surgery. Restrictions on strenuous activity may be limited by your surgeon based on the type of repair
Recommend to start walking right after surgery as tolerated.
The same day and actually once you get back to your room or outpatient setting unless there were any complications during surgery!
Hello:
Immediately. Take tiny steps. You can also do locoregional treatment with Family Dollar chest rub or Vick’s, gently massage area around incision for up to 2 minutes. Repeat every 2-3 hours. You have to walk. You are at a high risk of DVT and blood clots. Plus, lung collapse/atelectasis.

You should be able to start walking the same day of surgery.

I usually tell my patients they can resume most activity the following day. There may be a bit of pain, but it generally disappears in a few days! Strenuous activity can return in 14 days.
It is actually very important for healing after hernia surgery that patients start walking ASAP. Early walking helps prevent pulmonary complications and blood clots. It also accelerates healing and return to function sooner.
As soon as possible.
