Dentist Questions Yellow teeth

Why does my son have yellow teeth?

My son is only 8-years-old and already has yellow stains on his teeth. He brushes his teeth regularly, and doesn't really drink soda to cause these stains. Are there other things that can cause his teeth to turn yellow?

To be sure, see a dentist.
Stains are more common in young ages. any food or drink can stain your teeth. Plaque control and regular dental visits will eliminate these stains

The color you are seeing is likely coming from the second layer of the tooth called the dentin, and this is where all teeth get their color. For some that color is more grayish and others more yellow. You can discuss whitening options with your dentist, but if it does not bother your child, then the color is probably fine.
Hi there,

Primary teeth are naturally whiter than adult teeth, so, when the adult teeth erupt next to or during mixed dentition phase, they will look yellow in comparison. Certain spots can also occur due to hypocalcification of the enamel, tetracycline, fluorosis, decalcification, etc. Many reasons. Have your son assessed by the dentist and see what solutions are there for him.
Hope this helped.
Hi,

At 8 years old, he should have his front adult teeth present. Adult teeth are more yellow in color than the preceding baby teeth. This is because there is more dentin in the adult teeth. Dentin is yellow in color and is what gives teeth their yellow appearance. The enamel is the outer covering of the teeth and while the enamel is white, it is translucent, and the
thickness of the enamel is not much different in adult teeth as compared to baby teeth. So, the adult teeth are more yellow as a result. This is nothing to be concerned about and certainly teeth whitening is not recommended in a child this young. My advice is to wait until he gets a little bit older (say 16 or above) and then consider whitening his teeth. Also be sure to take him twice a year for cleanings and check ups, as external staining can make the teeth appear more yellow and the professional cleaning will remove this and improve the appearance.
Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Try seeing a dentist for a professional cleaning. His smile will probably brighten up. He can't clean his teeth the way a professional can.
