  • How can I make the process of losing teeth easier for my son?

Loosing the first tooth is an experience. After that it is no big deal. Your child's first set of teeth are called "primary teeth". Thr primary teeth remain in the mouth for a few years. As your child grows, the size of the teeth are going to have to get larger. The primary teeth can't grow. When it's time for the permanent teeth to erupt into the mouth, the permanent teeth start to secrete an enzyme. This enzyme starts to dissolve the root of the primary tooth that will be replaced. It is gradual, no pain. By the time the tooth is ready to fall out, the primary tooth is in soft tissue and what's left is the crown. If you look at some primary teeth, you see almost no root. You child will start touching the tooth. Pushing and moving it. Eventually the tooth will fall out. When I was teaching 2nd grade, . the rule was: "No dentistry will be done today." By the age of seven, friends volunteer to help get a tooth out. It is a matter of fact thing. You son may be anxious and telling him the tooth will come out when it is ready. He will help out, automatically. READ MORE

  • Can mouthwashes cause erosion of teeth calcium?

Some mouthwashes are harsh on mouth tissues. As far as removing calcium from the teeth, it would have to be very acidic. I am not familiar with that type of mouthwash. You are talking about mouth wash. Leaving food particles on teeth, can create "white spots". White spots mean the calcium has been removed from the tooth. This means that at that area the tooth is weakened. It could lead to decay. Braces on teeth place a "must do" for the patient. All food particles have to be removed from around the brackets and bands. If you see someone who has worn braces, and you see these white spots all around their teeth and at the gum line. These are decalcifications. The calcium has been removed at that area. There were no harsh chemicals, there was no pain. The acid formed was from food particles decaying and left on teeth for long time. People who eat or drink acidic foods can have sensitive teeth. After you have had anything acidic in your mouth, drinking some water dilutes the acid concentration. This also includes candy and other sweets. Rinsing your mouth if you are not at home or have a tooth brush lowers the caries risk. Carbonated beverages are also acidic. There is a connection between drinking carbonated drinks and calcium in your bones. There are many contributing factors with decalcification and teeth. This should be another indication that home care done correctly plays a major role in tooth-mouth health. READ MORE

  • How long would It ideally take to get teeth aligned with the help of braces?

Once brace treatment is completed, it is completed. Except, If you have consulted dentists for brace treatment and you were told that your daughter has wisdom teeth that need to be removed. You should be shown where these teeth are located. You may not see them in your daughter's mouth yet. There are many patients who have had braces, did not have their wisdom teeth removed. Besides the severe pain from pressure, all their teeth have moved and perhaps you see crowding of the front teeth. Those 4 wisdom teeth have moved all those teeth out of line. The pain from pressure and the teeth no longer in their correct place is a high price to pay. The second exception is if your daughter developed a habit that could cause her teeth to move. Following your doctor's instructions: keep the braces clean, and have the wisdom teeth removed if advised. Your daughter should have no problems. READ MORE

Areas of research

Dr. Tarnoski's personal research is FACIAL PAIN.. Besides offering general dentistry,

the office works with FACIAL PAIN patients who have been in PAIN for more than

18 months. Those patients who have been treated for TMJ  but have not had any significant relief,  there are other contributing possibilities.  For these PAIN patients, our advice is that  nothing be done that can't be reversed.  Extracting teeth, full mouth extraction, root canal on demand.  If you can't stand the teeth in your mouth, how do expect to wear a denture?

Our second area of special interest is in treating gum disease.  Using the Millennium  Periolase MVP-7 Laser(TM), all gum disease bacteria is removed in ONE TREATMENT-NO CUTTING/NO SEWING.  LESS PAIN. This laser was built to treat gum disease. Your body's own stem cells help to restore the supporting bone and tissues.  This laser and the treatment, LANAP, for natural teeth, and LAPIP for infected implants, is FDA approved.

We also help you design your own home care.  Gum disease and mouth infection will be the NEW FRONTIER to maintain your body's health.

Dr. Tarnoski is a Dentist currently serving patients with Philadelphia Dental Laser & Cosmetic Dentistry, LLC. Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Dental Laser & Cosmetic Dentistry, LLC remains dedicated to helping patients depending on their specific needs. The practice utilizes the LANAP procedure, which is a safe and proven laser treatment that gently removes bacteria and diseased tissue without cutting and stitching of the gums, which comes along with traditional gum surgery. The procedure only removes the diseased tissue, thereby allowing the body to heal naturally so the gum pockets improve and the teeth can become more stable. The laser also aids in the sealing of the pocket, where the bacteria resided, so no new germs can enter. Dr. Tarnoski earned her bachelor’s degree in history and elementary education, as well as her master’s degree in education from Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She then spent the next few years teaching within the Wilkes-Barre School District, where she received the PTA’s Lifetime Membership Award for Service. The award is the highest honor from the nation’s largest child advocacy organization and it is given to the person who daily lives out his or her commitment to children. Experiencing challenges as a child with some dental care she received, Dr. Tarnoski decided to capitalize on her background in education and pursue a degree in dental medicine from Temple University. She is a recipient of the Clairol Take Charge Award for women who have overcome obstacles and changed the course of their lives and who can serve as role models for other women. Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dr. Tarnoski has been practicing dentistry since 1987 and has continued her field of study by taking continuing education courses in periodontal disease, implant surgery, cosmetic dentistry and laser dentistry. She always takes a proactive approach to dental care, teaching and showing her patients how to properly brush, floss and take good care of their teeth, gums and overall health.
