It really depends on the diagnosis. There are 4 different muscles that make up the rotator cuff. These are the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis and teres minor. The degree of damage to the muscle or tendon will also make a difference as to what type of treatment is involved. Full-thickness and some partial thickness tears would require surgery. If the problem is more like impingement or tendonitis, then Ice, decompression techniques and stretching is a good place to start. If you are having a problem in the shoulder, a good exam should be performed to determine which muscle or muscles are affected and whether a MRI should be performed to get a more accurate diagnosis. Once a proper diagnosis is made, the proper
treatment plan should be implemented by a physician or therapist that specializes in treating musculoskeletal injuries such as a Chiropractor or Physical Therapist.

Absolutely. Chiropractors are experts at treating musculoskeletal injuries. A sprained ankle should be thoroughly evaluated to determine how extensive the soft tissue damage is and whether or not there is bone damage. Sometimes it is necessary to adjust the mortice joint of the ankle to help the alignment and strength of the ankle joint. Depending on the severity of
the sprain/strain, different treatments and recommendations for bracing and weight-bearing will be given. It is usually pretty safe to start with rest, ice, compression and elevation immediately after injury until severity of injury is accessed.

There are a variety of stretches to loosen the neck muscles. You can google neck stretches and see many. However, if the neck is very stiff, it may not be just tight muscles. Misalignment in the neck may be causing the tightness in those muscles. Manipulation of the cervical spine is very effective at reducing those misalignments. If your neck has been stiff for over 2 weeks, you should have a physician that specializes in musculoskeletal complaints (such as a chiropractor) check it out.

If you want to help to improve the forward head posture while sleeping, start by sleeping on your back with a smaller pillow or a small neck roll supporting your neck. You should also begin doing neck extension stretches and exercises. Strengthening the upper back muscles such as the trapezius and rhomboids will help to bring the shoulders back and the head will
follow. Don't forget to stretch the chest muscles as well. There are soft fulcrums such as the deneroll to help bring back the cervical curve. Keep working on that posture!
Good luck.

There are several ways to determine if your spine is out of alignment. First, look at your posture. If your head or shoulders are too far forward or if you have too much sway in the lower back or if your shoulders or hips are uneven when looking in the mirror, you have misalignment. If you have pain in the spine or peripheral joints, you may have misalignment. The best
way to determine if there is misalignment(s) and what is causing it is to receive an examination from a qualified physician such as a Chiropractor or Orthopedic and have X-rays taken. X-rays are the gold standard for determining deviations from normal alignment.

If scoliosis is left untreated, the abnormal biomechanical stress that it creates, especially at the apex of the curves, will more than likely cause increased degenerative changes that lead to arthritic changes and discogenic problems. It sounds as if you may have hyperextended your elbow when you fell into the outstretched arm. This is one of the ways people break their wrist or elbow. Hopefully, it’s just a strain/sprain. I recommend icing the elbow and resting it for a few days while it heals. Ibuprofen may help ease the pain and inflammation. If there is a lot of bruising, you should get an X-ray to see if there is a fracture. Function should improve within the next few days. If not, see a doctor.

Hello,

If you are able to "pop" your ankle over and over again, your ankle is probably somewhat unstable or may become unstable. I would advise not popping it repeatedly because it can make your ligaments looser than normal. I would also recommend strengthening muscle surrounding the ankle such as the calf muscles (gastronemius and soleus) as well as your foot dorsiflexors and everters such as tibial anterior and peroneus muscles. Strengthening these muscles may give your ankle joint more support.

There are several ways to adjust the ankle depending on the distortion pattern or malposition of the joint(s). Very often, the physician will hold the foot below the ankle and create a long axis distraction followed by a quick pull to the mortice joint to adjust that particular joint that is involved in dorsiflexion and plantar flexion of the foot. Many patients find that adjustment extremely helpful.

Typically, people will have misalignment issues for quite some time before symptoms appear unless there is a traumatic cause. There are often subtle clues of misalignment in the body such as uneven wear patterns on your shoe soles, knock knees or even uneven hips. You can check your posture and see if the shoulders appear even in height and not drawn forward too much. Look at your head position and make sure it is not being carried too far forward. This head position is becoming more common due to continuous neck flexion while looking down at our phones. One of The best ways to determine if you have alignment issues is to get a checkup from a good Chiropractor. If you are having chest pain, you should definitely get a checkup with your family doctor or urgent care and make sure there aren't any serious issues such as cardiovascular or respiratory issues. When you have shoulder impingement, you must decompress the area of impingement. So first, you need to know why the area has narrowed. Is it a problem with the size and slope of the acromion of the shoulder blade or is it the angle of the scapula or shoulder blade itself? If it is bony prominence that is genetic or degenerative (should not be degenerative at your age), then acromioplasty may be necessary. However, if the narrowing is caused by increased tension in the muscles of the rotator cuff (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis and teres minor), stretching exercises may be beneficial. Codman's exercises are a good start to stretch the glenohumeral joint. Also check any muscle that attaches to the scapulae such as the triceps, biceps, pecs and rhomboids for increased tension and trigger points. Basically stretch and foam roll or percuss/massage all muscles that attach to the shoulder blade. Having the help of a professional can save you a lot of time with trial and error.
